What is Portable Appliance Testing?

Regulation 4(2) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 says

As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is a process that ensures your electrical equipment is safe for your employees and customers. It generally consists of a visual inspection of the device plus an electrical test.

How often should I have my equipment tested?

The Health & Safety Executive does not give a specific interval as to how often you should have your equipment checked. The IEE guidance offers different periods depending on the business (e.g. a commercial kitchen should have its appliances checked every six months, whereas a school should check every year), though in practice, many insurance companies prefer you to run an annual inspection.

Who are we?

Expertise Repairs has been performing Portable Appliance Tests in the Oxfordshire area for over twenty years. Our clients include schools, local businesses, chains, commercial kitchens, and restaurants. We have many regular customers that invite us back year after year based on the quality of service we provide.

We offer a no-fuss and inobtrusive service that tests your equipment in an efficient manner and leaves you with a list of checked equipment (supplied in both paper and electronic form on request). In the case of failed items, we may also carry out simple repairs, if possible or desired. We'll work around your working practices, rather than getting in the way.
